Ferris State University is looking for dedicated part-time faculty members to teach French and Spanish across multiple locations and modes of delivery, including face-to-face and online courses. Position Details

  • Start Date: August 2026 and/or January 2027

Compensation & Benefits

Minimum of $1,353 per credit hour. For those holding an advanced degree in the primary academic discipline, the rate increases to $1,458 per credit hour. Salary is commensurate with qualifications, aligned with the FSU and FNTFO/AFT Agreement.

Position Overview

We seek applications from qualified individuals to teach introductory, intermediate, or advanced French or Spanish courses. Teaching modes include face-to-face, mixed, and online instruction, at our main Big Rapids campus and other Michigan locations. This pooled position will be filled on a semester-by-semester basis for Fall 2026 and/or Spring 2027.

Work Location & Residency Requirements

  • In-Person Courses: Must reside in Michigan and perform duties at a Ferris site.
  • Online Courses: Must reside in Michigan, Illinois (excluding Chicago), Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, Ohio, Texas, or Wisconsin. Employment will not continue if you relocate to a non-listed state after hiring.

Qualifications

  • Education: Master's degree in Spanish or French, linguistics, Hispanic or Francophone cultural studies, or a related field, with at least 18 graduate credits in the target language, and near-native fluency (ACTFL Advanced Mid level).
  • Experience: Proven ability to teach college-level French or Spanish courses fully in the target language.
  • Licenses & Certifications: As required.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Teaching: Deliver courses in face-to-face, mixed, or online formats, including meeting scheduled classes and providing timely feedback.
  2. Technology Use: Incorporate appropriate teaching-related technologies.
  3. Learning Environment: Maintain a safe and engaging classroom atmosphere.
  4. Assessment & Development: Participate in assessment activities, mentoring, and professional development.
  5. Inclusive Environment: Foster a respectful and supportive environment valuing diversity.
  6. Student Initiatives: Support enrollment and retention efforts.
  7. Additional Duties: Perform other duties within the classified area as assigned.
  8. Academic Responsibilities: Maintain posted office hours, participate in university functions, and teach off-campus or online as needed.
