Position: Adjunct Instructor (TEMPORARY) - Japanese

Position Title

Adjunct Faculty (Part-Time) – Japanese, temporary assignment beginning January 2027.

Summary

The Foreign Language Department at Contra Costa Community College is seeking a dedicated adjunct instructor to teach transfer‑level First‑semester and Second‑semester Japanese courses. Instruction may occur across various modalities—including face‑to‑face, online synchronous and asynchronous, or hybrid formats. The role focuses on supporting student learning, promoting inclusive educational environments, and integrating a culturally responsive curriculum.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines, and class schedules.
• Create and maintain a learning environment that encourages open discussion of ideas and critical thinking.
• Evaluate student progress and grade assignments.
• Meet with students outside of class as needed.
• Maintain professional conduct and ethics.
• Stay current with developments in the subject matter areas.
• Fulfill the professional responsibilities of a part‑time/temporary faculty member.
• Maintain accurate academic records.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education

Master’s degree in Japanese OR Bachelor’s in Japanese combined with a Master’s in another language or Linguistics OR the equivalent qualification.

• Effective communication skills to assist students in achieving their educational goals.
• Experience teaching transfer‑level Japanese courses across various modalities—face‑to‑face, online synchronous and asynchronous, or hybrid.

Pay

Hourly pay rate: $77.87–$128.97 (up to $151.16 per hour).
