Department of World Languages and Cultures
We offer diverse opportunities for language learning and cultural exploration across 13 languages and global studies. Our faculty engage in innovative teaching and research to prepare students for international careers and intercultural competence.
Our Commitments
- Developing students' linguistic and cultural proficiency in second or third languages for professional use
- Fostering interdisciplinary scholarship in language education, cultural studies, linguistics, translation, and film
- Enhancing the university’s international presence through faculty expertise in service, community engagement, and interdisciplinary programs
Academic Programs
We offer two B.A. programs: Modern Language and Culture and Asian Studies. The Modern Language and Culture major provides tracks in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Korean, Japanese, and Spanish, with concentrations including Teacher Certification, Applied Business, and Cross-disciplinary Perspectives. Asian Studies emphasizes traditional and transformative Asian cultural interactions. Additionally, numerous minors and a Critical Languages Program offer cultural and linguistic enrichment.
The College of Humanities & Social Sciences
Home to over 400 faculty and 8,100 students, our college focuses on workforce readiness in the humanities and social sciences through practical, experiential learning. We offer more than 80 undergraduate and graduate programs designed to develop leadership, problem-solving, and civic engagement skills.
Position Details
We are currently accepting applications for a pool of part-time and limited-term faculty positions for the 2025-2026 academic year. These roles are semester-by-semester and will be filled based on department needs and candidate credentials.
Responsibilities
- Teaching undergraduate courses in languages such as American Sign Language, Arabic, Asian Studies, Chinese, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and World Language Education
- Courses will be assigned based on earned degrees and SACSCOC Faculty Credentials Guidelines
Qualifications
Required
- A Master's degree or foreign equivalent in the specific discipline or a closely related field at the time of hire
- Or, a Master's degree or foreign equivalent in a non-related discipline with 18 graduate credit hours in the teaching discipline
Preferred
- Native or near-native fluency in target language(s)
- Experience teaching world languages and cultures
- Experience teaching online or hybrid courses
