Manuscript Data Curation Fellow

Job Summary 📄

The Fellow will collaborate with member institutions to generate metadata descriptions for undescribed manuscript objects in the form of DS Catalog records. Responsibilities include assessing the needs of current and prospective members, conducting evaluations and research, organizing information using the DS data model, and supporting data enrichment and record maintenance. The Fellow will also facilitate outreach, training, and workshops to promote best practices in manuscript description.

Key Responsibilities 🎯

  • Create original manuscript metadata descriptions for Digital Scriptorium members requesting support
  • Conduct outreach and needs assessment for metadata creation services
  • Assist with data reconciliation for DS Catalog entries
  • Lead or assist online workshops and training sessions with member staff
  • Promote work at conferences and through publications
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Skills 📝

  • Master’s degree (M.S., M.A.) or equivalent experience (0-1 years)

Preferred Qualifications 🌟

  • MLIS degree or PhD in a relevant field
  • Proficiency in classical languages (Latin, Greek, Sanskrit) or relevant modern languages (Arabic, Hebrew, French, German, Italian, etc.)
  • Knowledge of manuscript description best practices and authority use
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Collaborative skills with stakeholders and technical teams
  • Ability to work remotely with conferencing and electronic communication tools
