Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree from an accredited college or university, Master's Degree required
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate in any EC-Elementary level content
  • Minimum 3 years teaching required, 5 years preferred

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English and Spanish
  • In-depth knowledge of the TEKS for the elementary grades
  • Disposition and desire to learn new technology
  • Ability to help others and make sense and adjust to change
  • Working knowledge of Dual Language Programs
  • Demonstrated ability to accessing and interpreting assessment data
  • In-depth knowledge of Sheltered Instruction and ability to provide follow up professional development in this area

Job Goals: Collaborate with campus and district staff to improve educational opportunities for teachers and students. Create an instructional environment that ensures instructor and student excellence.

Performance Responsibilities

Program Planning/Implementation/Instruction:

  • Assists classroom teachers in examining current instructional practices and beliefs.
  • Provides staff development for teachers, focusing on content specific and district initiatives.
  • Uses the Cognitive Coaching model (or a similar approach) when observing classroom teachers during instruction and provides written and/or verbal feedback. Records and collects data from instructional observations and feedback conferences.
  • Serves as a mentor for teachers as they implement new strategies and techniques within the classroom.
  • Ensure high-quality instruction in classrooms through modeling, co-planning, and providing feedback to teachers.
  • Conferences with individual teachers to problem solve and plan for instruction.
  • Assist teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the sharing of multiple instructional strategies/processes during planning times.
  • Obtains and uses evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to determine and ensure that instruction is effective and responds to student needs.
  • Recommends policies and best practices to improve content instruction.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of research-based instructional strategies that engages all students, improves instructional practices to improve student outcomes.
  • Supports subject area / grade level teams in lesson planning and ensures horizontal and vertical alignment.
  • Plans and uses research based instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  • Collaborates with campus administration to implement intervention activities and specific instructional strategies.
  • Attends weekly PLC meetings
  • Assists with TELPAS and LPAC meetings
  • Assists with screening and testing incoming students
  • Assists the bilingual teachers with selecting and securing instructional materials
  • Serves on the Dual Language Exploratory Committee
  • Promote reflection, provide guidance and structure where needed, and focus on strengths, collaboration, and common issues of concern.

Assessment

  • Assists with modifications of instructional materials for students who do not master the content and helps campus administration with suggested intervention schedules for these students.
  • Coordinates the administration of campus common and district assessments.
  • Analyzes and interprets data from district and campus assessments and works with administrators and teachers to make informed decisions from results.
  • Conferences with individual teachers on the analysis of student performance, teacher and grade level data (i.e. identify trends and patterns in the data over time).
  • Supports teachers in the development and use of campus assessments.

Budget And Inventory

  • Serves as a resource for teachers and administrators as they select instructional materials and programs.
  • Coordinates inventory of campus content specific materials.

Communication

  • Establishes and maintains open communication by conducting conferences with teachers, administrators, directors and assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction.
  • Maintains professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents and community members.

Other

  • Stays current regarding new theories and developments in research-based practices.
  • Presents subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies and administrative regulations.
  • Creates an environment conducive to learning and appropriateness for the physical, social and emotional development of teachers and students.
  • Serves, upon request, as a resource person to the campus principal in interviewing prospective teachers.

Work days: 202

FISD pays $365 a month towards TRS Health Insurance

You can earn up to 5 local and 5 state days if you start at beginning of school year.
