The Gameday Communications Assistant role pays $17.25 an hour.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
The Gameday Communications Assistant will be given opportunities to help assist the San Diego FC Communications Department on home matchdays. This role is designed for those passionate about sports media and communications and looking to gain hands-on experience in a professional sports environment. This position will assist the department with essential gameday media operations and logistics, including but not limited to matchday media operations, stats, photo marshalling, media will call and transcribing post-match interviews.
This role requires a minimum commitment of all 21 scheduled home matches during the season, with the possibility of additional events or matches. Candidates must have availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as dictated by the match schedule.
Key Responsibilities:
- Matchday Media Support: Assist with media check-in, credential distribution, and will call operations to ensure a seamless experience for members of the media.
- Photo Marshalling: Support the photo marshaling process by managing on-field photographer placements and ensuring adherence to stadium guidelines.
- Media Relations: Provide support to media representatives throughout matchday, including guiding them to designated areas and answering inquiries.
- Content Support: Transcribe pre-game and post-game interviews, distribute press conference quotes, and assist with other content needs.
- In-Game Monitoring: Track and update match statistics in real time, coordinating with match operations staff to ensure accuracy.
- Stats and Materials Distribution: Prepare and distribute matchday statistics, lineups, and other relevant materials to media and staff.
- Post-Match Procedures: Support press conference and post-game access coordination, interview facilitation, and post-match clean-up of media areas.
- Operational Learning: Gain experience in professional sports media operations, including logistics, event execution, and communications strategies.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Strong interest in sports communications, media relations, and event operations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive.
- Previous experience in sports or events is a plus but not required.
- Experience working in fast-paced environments, preferably in sports, events, or entertainment industries.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
- Experience working with media, photographers, or production teams is beneficial but not required.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Knowledge of the sport of soccer and MLS.
- Knowledge of soccer terminology, statistics, and matchday operations.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and composure when interacting with media, staff, and athletes.
- Understanding of stadium protocols and media guidelines is a plus.
- Willingness to adapt, take initiative, and work under pressure in dynamic environments.
