Chesterfield County Is Hiring A Bilingual Customer Service Representative

📝 Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED; college courses in accounting, business, or related fields preferred
  • Experience: At least one year of customer service experience in a call center environment or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Language Skills: Fluency in English and Spanish (reading, writing, and speaking) is required
  • Skills: Ability to multitask, work under stressful conditions, and demonstrate excellent bilingual communication skills
  • Technical Proficiency: Experience with Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Assessment: Ability to pass a third-party skills test in English and Spanish (paid for by the county)
  • Additional Requirements: Pre-employment drug test, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification

The successful candidate will receive a salary that is 5% above the advertised starting salary due to bilingual proficiency.💼

🔧 Duties

As a first point of contact, you'll assist customers at the Utilities Department, providing essential support in both English and Spanish. Your responsibilities include:

  • Offering information, researching issues, and performing routine account actions like collections and payment arrangements
  • Answering questions and resolving complaints
  • Processing payments and explaining policies to customers in both languages
  • Using bilingual skills to help Spanish-speaking customers access services and translating information as needed
  • Interpreting in person, over the phone, and via written communication (emails, correspondence)
  • Translating documents, customer information, and assisting staff with Spanish translations
  • Supporting inquiries related to new connections, disconnections, billing, fees, online/IVR payments, and account histories

🕒 Shift

Monday through Friday:

  • Monday: 8 hours
  • Tuesday - Friday: 5 hours daily
