Chesterfield County Is Hiring A Bilingual Customer Service Representative

Join our team as a bilingual Customer Service Representative and be the vital link between the Utilities Department and our diverse community! 🌎✨

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated individual with strong bilingual communication skills in English and Spanish to serve as the first point of contact for our customers, providing assistance, information, and translation services in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Educational Background: High school diploma or GED; college coursework in accounting, business, or related fields preferred.
  • Experience: At least 1 year of customer service experience in a call center environment OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in written and spoken English and Spanish is required.
  • Skills: Multi-tasking, ability to work under stress, excellent bilingual communication (oral and written), fast and accurate typing, effective problem-solving and resolution skills.
  • Technical Proficiency: PC skills in Word, Excel, and Outlook are mandatory; proficiency will be assessed via a third-party test paid for by the county.
  • Additional Requirements: Pre-employment drug screening, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification are required.

Compensation

The successful candidate will receive a 5% salary increase over the advertised starting salary in recognition of bilingual proficiency.

Key Responsibilities

As a frontline representative, you will:

  • Provide in-person assistance to customers at the Utilities Department, primarily in English and Spanish.
  • Offer information, research basic issues, and perform routine account collections or payment arrangements.
  • Address inquiries and resolve complaints efficiently.
  • Receive and process payments, explaining policies and procedures in both languages.
  • Use bilingual skills extensively to help Spanish-fluent customers access services and translate information accurately.
  • Translate documents, correspondence, and customer information for staff and customers.
  • Assist with account management tasks such as new connections, disconnections, billing questions, and online/IVR payments.
  • Investigate account histories and respond to inquiries regarding charges or credits.
  • Provide interpretation services over the phone, in person, and via written communication.

Work Schedule

The position operates on a Monday to Friday schedule:

  • Monday: 8 hours
  • Tuesday to Friday: 5 hours each day
